Pasar Senen Station Tops Passenger Volume in First Half of 2026

Pasar Senen Station in Jakarta recorded the highest passenger volume among Indonesian railway stations in the first half of 2026, with 3,849,606 boarding and alighting activities. It was followed by Gambir Station with 3,227,508 activities and Yogyakarta Station with 3,217,240 activities. Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, stated that the total number of passenger boarding and alighting activities across 232 stations in Java and Sumatra reached 59,716,534 during the January–June 2026 period. Other stations in the top ten included Semarang Tawang, Surabaya Gubeng, Purwokerto, Surabaya Pasarturi, Semarang Poncol, and Solo Balapan. Purba noted that 36,560,181 activities, or 61.22 percent of the total, occurred at the 222 stations outside the top ten, reflecting widespread travel needs for education, healthcare, work, trade, and family visits. She added that the distribution of services expanded with the commencement of passenger services at Comal, Plabuan, and Rajapolah stations in April 2026. Purba emphasised that equitable transport access aligns with the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan, as improved connectivity broadens opportunities for learning, health, employment, and quality of life.
