Pasar Senen Station Porters Earn More Income During Eid

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Porters or luggage handlers at Pasar Senen Major Station in Jakarta are reaping higher incomes during the mudik, return, and Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 AD holiday period. Said (55), one of the porters at Pasar Senen Station, said on Saturday that during the Eid holiday period, he could pocket income from transporting and delivering passengers’ goods amounting to Rp500,000 in one day. “During Eid like this, it’s definitely busy, it’s the moment,” said Said. According to him, there are around 200 porters at Pasar Senen Station who work every day with a morning and afternoon shift system. For the morning shift, 100 people work from 07.00 to 19.00 WIB. Then it is continued with the second shift from 19.00 back to 07.00 in the morning. “The station here operates 24 hours, so the duty system is 12 hours. I’m on the morning shift today, then at seven in the evening I’ll go home,” he said. If on normal days porters can pocket a maximum income of Rp200,000, during Eid it can increase by up to 50 percent. Porter rates for one-time luggage carrying vary if ordered without an app system. For the app system, the minimum payment to porters is Rp38,000. “You can order via app, or directly. If ordering directly, the transaction is according to the agreed rate,” he said. ANTARA observations at Pasar Senen Station showed many people utilising porter services to carry their goods because on average train passengers bring more than one bag. There were passengers who paid Rp20,000 to a porter who carried their goods in the form of one travel bag over a short distance. According to passengers using porter services, the presence of porters is very helpful for those who are troubled carrying a lot of luggage. Especially when tired from the journey. “Yes, besides helping carry luggage, we’re also helping the porters, right? Their income comes from carrying goods, they’re not salaried by the state or company,” said one of the passengers. Until 17.30 WIB, the passenger condition at Pasar Senen Station on H+7 of Eid 2026 was still monitored as busy.
