Pasar Senen Becomes KAI's Busiest Long-Distance Train Station with 3.15 Million Passengers Through May 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has recorded Pasar Senen Station as the busiest long-distance train station in its network, with passenger movements reaching 3,155,845 between January and May 2026. The figure comprises 1,670,428 boarding passengers and 1,485,417 alighting passengers.

Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba stated that the high passenger volume underscores the station’s critical role as an intercity travel hub from Jakarta to various regions across Java. “Pasar Senen is a strategic node for intercity mobility in Indonesia. The data from January to May 2026 shows the station’s significant role, serving high-volume long-distance travel while connecting with commuter and urban public transport,” Anne said.

Monthly long-distance passenger movements at Pasar Senen were recorded at 622,763 in January, 492,511 in February, 783,962 in March, 613,383 in April, and 643,226 in May 2026. These figures place Pasar Senen ahead of other major stations during the same period, including Gambir (2,603,087 passengers), Yogyakarta (2,574,177), Semarang Tawang (1,736,897), and Surabaya Gubeng (1,547,309).

Anne explained that Pasar Senen serves a broad demographic, from families and workers to students, tourists, and small business owners who rely on rail as their primary mode of transport. “For many passengers, Pasar Senen is a convenient and well-connected starting point. KAI continuously ensures orderly passenger flow, from arrival and boarding to information services and departure,” she said.

Beyond long-distance services, the station also serves the Cikarang/Bekasi Commuter Line, recording 1,509,193 commuter passengers in the same period, with 706,562 gate-ins and 802,631 gate-outs. The commuter line itself handled 36,294,307 users overall. Anne noted that integration with the commuter line allows passengers from Bekasi, Cikarang, Jatinegara, and Kampung Bandan to access long-distance trains more efficiently.

Connectivity is further enhanced by Transjakarta bus services at the Senen bus stop, including BRT Corridor 2 (Pulo Gadung–Monas), route 2A (Pulo Gadung–Rawa Buaya), route 7F (Kampung Rambutan–Juanda via Cempaka Putih), BRT Corridor 14 (Jakarta International Stadium–Senen), and route 14B (Tanjung Priok–Senen via JIS).

Demographically, the station is located in Senen District, Central Jakarta, which had a population of 119,457 in 2024 according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The district also hosts 25 hotels and 14 lodgings, underscoring the area’s strong economic and accommodation activity.

“Pasar Senen’s strength lies in the convergence of intercity, commuter, commercial, accommodation, and urban transport functions. KAI is therefore strengthening service flow, travel information, cleanliness, security, and coordination with stakeholders in the Senen area,” Anne concluded, urging passengers to arrive early, check schedules via the Access by KAI app, and remain vigilant with their belongings.
