Pasar Minggu's Merah Putih Cooperative Collects Used Cooking Oil from Residents

The Pasar Minggu Village Cooperative (Koperasi Kelurahan Merah Putih) in South Jakarta is collecting used cooking oil from culinary businesses and residents to support environmental conservation and source-level waste management. “We provide education, collaborate, and they make a joint commitment with us to resolve their waste problems directly from the source, including used cooking oil,” said Pasar Minggu Sub-district Head Meilita on Tuesday (7/7), as quoted by Antara. She stated that her office continues to educate the public and collaborate with various parties to tackle waste issues at the source, including used cooking oil waste. According to her, used cooking oil produced by culinary businesses in the Pasar Minggu area is managed through the Pasar Minggu Merah Putih Village Cooperative. Currently, the cooperative actively serves as a collection point for used cooking oil from 12 waste banks spread across 10 community units (RW), culinary businesses, and residents who come directly to drop off their used cooking oil. In addition to supporting used cooking oil management, the cooperative also provides various services for the community, such as air conditioner servicing, business licensing processing, and other administrative services. Meilita explained that the cooperative is not yet engaged in goods trading and is still focusing on developing service sectors needed by the community. “So, this Merah Putih Village Cooperative is not yet dealing in goods, but only in services for now,” she said. She expressed hope that the synergy between the sub-district government, the cooperative, and the community can continue to be strengthened to support environmental conservation and improve services for residents in the Pasar Minggu area.
