Pasar Minggu traders protest
JAKARTA (JP): Shop owners and managers at the Pasar Minggu
shopping complex in South Jakarta have complained about the
presence of street traders in the parking lot.
The situation, especially at Blocks E and F, has become
increasingly messy since the roadside vendors were allowed to use
the parking lot as a business site, the manager of Robinson
Department Store, Roy Alveny, was quoted by Antara as saying
yesterday.
"Pickpockets operate here and there," Roy said, and he added
that motorists find it hard to get a parking space.
According to Roy, the owners and managers of the shops based
in the complex want the city-owned market company PD Pasar Jaya
to regulate the roadside vendors and provide them with specific
spots for their business so they would not disturb shoppers who
want to park their vehicles in the parking lot.
"We've sent an official letter to PD Pasar Jaya about this,
but we have received no answer," Roy said. The letter was sent
following a meeting attended by 16 owners and managers of the
shops in the complex. (sur)
