Pasar Jaya to open wholesale center
JAKARTA (JP): The city-owned market company, PD Pasar Jaya, will open a wholesale center next year.
Company director Soedrajad Soeleman said yesterday that the wholesale center will be located on a one-hectare plot of land in East Jakarta.
He said that the plan is based on Provincial Decree No. 7/1992 which allows the company to diversify its business, which the governor has been encouraging.
"We chose wholesale because it is a lucrative business," Soedrajad said.
"There are not many wholesale centers in the city and the business is growing fast here," he said, adding that Makro and Goro are the only two big wholesale centers in the city.
He also said several investors have shown interest in cooperating with PD Pasar Jaya in its wholesale endeavor.
However, he said, "the management has not decided yet if it will invite investors in or not."
Soedrajad said that the center will not be run by professionals and not by PD Pasar Jaya employees.
PD Pasar Jaya was established 29 years ago by the city administration to build and manage markets in Jakarta. It has 265 markets throughout the city with a total of 80,000 traders. (yns)
