Pasar Baru Management Hopes for Swift Reactivation of Husein Sastranegara Airport

The management of Pasar Baru Trade Centre hopes that the plan to reactivate Husein Sastranegara Airport can be realised soon. According to tenant relations manager Yogi Nathaniel, this policy could restore the glory of Bandung as a city frequently visited by international tourists.

Yogi Nathaniel believes that the reactivation of the airport is a correct step towards attracting tourists. “We welcome the discourse regarding the reactivation,” he stated at Pasar Baru on Wednesday (10/06/2026).

As is known, President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base (Lanud) to reopen the airport. Yogi noted that when the airport was active, tourists from various countries visited Bandung, and he mentioned that visitor trends have been steadily increasing.

Groups of tourists from Malaysia were seen visiting the Pasar Baru Trade Centre in Bandung on Wednesday morning, amidst the weakening of the rupiah against the US dollar, which stood at Rp 17,953 per dollar. They visited various clothing shops, ranging from batik to other apparel.

Observations at the centre showed shopkeepers actively inviting Malaysian tourists to try on batik and other garments. Several other tourists were also seen selecting items for purchase.

A number of tour guides were accompanying tourists during their shopping trip at Pasar Baru Trade Centre. One Malaysian tourist, Katy (40), admitted that she and her friends were on holiday in Bandung and had included Pasar Baru in their itinerary. She noted that she visits Pasar Baru every time she holidays in Bandung.

“We come here (to Pasar Baru) to find various interesting and beautiful items; the batik, for instance, is very attractive and high quality,” she said during an interview on Wednesday.
