Party to set up legal unit

SURABAYA, East Java: The provincial branch of the United
Development Party (PPP) will establish a legal aid body to help
it better prepare for the 1997 general elections.

Chairman H.M. Syumli Sadly told Antara yesterday the branch is
currently making an inventory of members who are law school
graduates.

The Central Java branch has already formed a body with 75 law
school graduates who will be entrusted with the task of
monitoring the general elections in the province and prevent
possible violations.

All PPP branches at the provincial and regency level will be
establishing similar bodies soon, the agency reported. (swe)
