Party Led by Former Anies Spokesperson Officially Registers with Ministry of Law
The People’s Movement Party has officially submitted its registration documents as a political party to the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta on Thursday (23/7/2026). Party Chairman Sahrin Hamid said the achievement was the result of a long struggle by party officials across the regions who completed their Registration Certificates (SKT) as of 22 July 2026.
“Alhamdulillah, yesterday, on 22 July 2026, we completed 38 Registration Certificates. Thirty-eight Registration Certificates from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote Island, we have perfected this effort for a better Indonesia,” Sahrin said in a written statement on Friday (24/7/2026).
Sahrin said the People’s Movement Party grew organically from the grassroots and was not formed by political elites.
He reminded party members that registration with the Ministry of Law is only the beginning of a long process towards legality and membership with the aim of contesting the 2029 General Election.
“The next phase is obtaining legal entity status. Once we have become a legal entity, next year we must become an election participant, and the following phase is winning the 2029 General Election,” he said.
Sahrin served as spokesman for Anies Baswedan during the 2024 Presidential and Vice-Presidential Election, when Anies ran alongside Muhaimin Iskandar.
Anies himself has been named an ‘Inspirational Figure’ and forms part of the People’s Movement Party. He attended the party’s declaration ceremony held on 27 February 2025.
At the time, Sahrin described Anies’s presence at the declaration as that of an inspirational figure, calling the mass organisation a vehicle for volunteers fighting for change.
“We know that Mas Anies Baswedan, as our inspirational figure, our driving force and role model for us all — so we certainly express our gratitude for Mas Anies’s presence among us,” he explained.
On the same occasion, Sahrin said Anies had also joined and become part of the People’s Movement mass organisation. However, he did not elaborate further on Anies’s position within the organisation.
“As we know, only the Central Leadership Council has been inaugurated. The other councils have not been inaugurated at all — only the Central Leadership Council so far,” he said.
“Mr Anies is a role model, an inspirational figure, and we know that the symbol of the spirit of change is Mr Anies. The people’s movement is a movement of struggle, a movement of change. So naturally, Mr Anies’s relevance must be there,” he added.
