Party leaders go hungry

JAKARTA: Many political party leaders attending the first day of street rallies at the National Monument (Monas) on Wednesday went hungry.

Activists in charge of logistics could do nothing when dozens of hungry children, men and women stole the lunch boxes reserved for the big bosses.

"I was starving and I don't care whose lunch it was," Endun Sukendar, 21, who stole a box, told Antara.

A party leader eager to win public sympathy for his party's cause played down the incident, saying that the onlookers deserved the meals more than the politicians. (pan)
