Party Leaders Attend MPR, DPR, DPD Annual Session; Megawati Absent

PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri did not attend the series of events for the 2026 MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Friday (14/8/2026). PDIP Central Board Chairman Djarot Saiful Hidayat stated that Megawati had another engagement. “Bu Mega is not here, Bu Mega has an activity,” Djarot told reporters at the DPR/MPR Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday.

Today’s session is one of the state agendas leading up to the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence. During the agenda, President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to deliver a state address. The President will deliver the state address from 09:34 to 10:34 WIB.

In addition to the state address, the government is also scheduled to submit the Draft Law on the 2027 State Budget along with the Financial Note and supporting documents to the DPR. This submission is part of the plenary meeting agenda following the President’s state address.

Regarding the Independence Day commemoration ceremony on Monday (17/8/2026), Djarot mentioned that Megawati usually attends the ceremony at the Party School. However, he did not elaborate further on whether Megawati would attend the ceremony at the State Palace. “On 17 August, Bu Mega usually has a ceremony at the Party School,” Djarot revealed.

In his speech, President Prabowo Subianto greeted the invited guests, including the political party leaders. He noted that the PDIP Chairperson was represented by the Speaker of the DPR, Puan Maharani. Also present were Golkar Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia, Gerindra Daily Chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan, Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, National Awakening Party Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, Prosperous Justice Party Chairman Ali Muzamil Yusuf, and NasDem Party’s Surya Paloh.
