Party flags taken down in Bandung

BANDUNG: Poll officials in Bandung hauled down on Tuesday afternoon party banners and flags along the city's main thoroughfares as they said the roads were campaign-free zones.

Benny Moestofa, the chairman of Bandung mayoralty's General Election Commission (KPUD), complained that the violations were committed by at least nine political parties in Bandung.

Of those nine, all six of the largest parties were included.

"The parties are not allowed to display flags and other party paraphernalia along Jl. Merdeka, Jl. Braga or Jl. Asia-Afrika, but they have deliberately violated that regulation. We have to take stern measures," said Moestofa. -- JP
