Partnering with UI, PBNU Strengthens Collaboration in Education and Research
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The General Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) and Universitas Indonesia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the fields of education and research.
PBNU General Chairman KH Yahya Cholil Staquf (Gus Yahya) stated that this MoU represents a step to bolster collaboration in the academic realm and social services between PBNU and UI.
“Later, it will cover a broad scope of cooperation, from academics to various community services that have been NU’s domain so far,” said Gus Yahya at the PBNU Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
“These two areas are wide open. NU will greatly benefit from UI’s willingness to support NU’s agenda,” he added.
Gus Yahya hopes that the cooperation between PBNU and UI will bring prosperity to both institutions, the community, and the nation.
“Hopefully, this sincere cooperation between the two parties will yield great benefits and prosperity not only for both sides but also for the community, the nation, and the state, and be blessed by Allah,” he said.
Cooperation could be carried out through double degree programmes between NU campuses and UI to improve quality education standards recognised nationally and internationally.
Another possible scheme is a recruitment programme for third-year high school students, selecting 100 outstanding santri and students for studies in 10 priority programmes.
“Currently, UI has 38 internationally accredited study programmes. We can start with 10 programmes,” he said.
The initial step following this is to map the study programmes and curricula at NU campuses to align them with UI.
“After the curriculum mapping is complete, we can create a UNU UI double degree programme with scholarships,” said Heri.
