Indonesia now has its first investment platform for aircraft leasing, following a strategic partnership between Danantara Investment Management (DIM), SMBC Aviation Capital, and Mandiri Investment Management.

At a ceremony held in Tokyo on Wednesday (1 April 2026), the three parties agreed to establish the Mandiri Aviation Leasing Fund with an initial portfolio value of US$800 million, equivalent to approximately Rp13.57 trillion.

The vehicle is specifically designed to provide a pathway for large investors to enter global aviation assets, which have previously been difficult to access independently.

Chief Investment Officer of Danantara Indonesia, Pandu Sjahrir, explained that this step serves as a gateway for Indonesia to play a significant role in the global aviation financing ecosystem.

“Danantara Indonesia is investing in a world-class platform capable of delivering optimal returns, while building strategic capabilities for Indonesia,” Pandu stated in his official remarks.

Technically, the platform will be jointly managed by Mandiri Investment and SMBC Aviation Capital. Mandiri will focus on designing the investment fund structure, while SMBC, one of the world’s leading aircraft leasing giants, will handle the operational side and fleet management.

Chief Executive Officer of Mandiri Investment Management, Baskoro Adi, described the partnership as an innovative solution to connect investors with high-quality aviation assets.

Meanwhile, on the same occasion, Chief Commercial Officer of SMBC Aviation Capital, Barry Flannery, expressed optimism that the collaboration will advance the aviation sector both in Indonesia and internationally.

“Through close cooperation with Mandiri and Danantara Indonesia, we hope to support long-term growth, innovation, and collaboration across this sector,” Barry said.

Furthermore, the partnership is expected to strengthen economic relations between Indonesia and Japan through sustainable cross-border investment opportunities. For Danantara, the success of this platform will serve as a foundation for expansion into other global asset classes in the future.
