Parties fail to inform KPUD of campaigns

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: A poll official said on Wednesday that all 24 political parties contesting the elections had yet to provide the Makassar General Elections Commission (KPUD) with their campaign schedules.

Mappinawang, a member of the Makassar KPUD, said he was disappointed in the attitude of the 24 parties.

"It has been ruled by the KPUD that they should submit the names of their campaigners, the campaign dates and where they will hold their campaigns to the KPU and the police at least one week before campaigning," he said.

However, he said the KPUD would not rush to ban parties from campaigning because that could cause conflict. Instead, the commission will work to promote a safe campaign period. -- JP
