A section of the collapsed road in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, is now passable after temporary steel plates were installed. Repair work is set to begin tonight. ‘Yes, according to recent information, work will commence at 21:00 WIB, from 22:00 WIB onwards,’ said Sartono, head of the Jagakarsa District Water Resources Department, to reporters in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, on Friday (29/5/2026). Sartono said partial lane closures would be in place during the repair process. ‘There won’t be full closures; only one lane will be open at a time. Yes, it will be reopened after work,’ he added. He stated that a 2-metre box culvert will be installed tonight, with work carried out in stages over two to three days. Traffic delays are expected during the construction. ‘Box culvert installation will take place tonight, possibly in stages over two to three days at most,’ he said. ‘Traffic may experience minor disruptions during the culvert installation, but we ask for public cooperation and patience to ensure the work proceeds smoothly,’ he concluded. Detikcom’s observation at the scene on Friday (29/5) at 17:00 WIB showed the collapsed road was passable after temporary steel plates were installed. Transjakarta buses were already operating on the route, with other road users resuming normal traffic flow after the road was fully reopened. Since 15:20 WIB, traffic police and transport officials had reopened the road. Drivers were slowing down as they passed the area where steel plates had been placed over the collapsed section. ‘Initial safety measures included installing temporary steel plates. Permanent repairs are scheduled for nighttime to optimise work without causing major traffic disruptions,’ said Santo, head of South Jakarta’s Water Resources Department, when contacted on Friday (29/5). Santo explained the 3-metre-wide collapse was likely due to deteriorating old drainage infrastructure beneath the road. He attributed the structural degradation to aging infrastructure and heavy rainfall. For permanent repairs, the Water Resources Department will replace the old drainage structure with a 2x2-metre concrete box culvert spanning 16 metres. Work is expected to take three days, subject to on-site conditions.
