The government and the House of Representatives (DPR) have agreed to elevate teachers holding part-time government employee with work agreement (PPPK) status to full-time PPPK status starting in 2027.

Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Rini Widyantini made the announcement following a meeting between DPR leaders and several relevant ministers on Tuesday (18/8/2026) at the DPR building in Jakarta.

“Part-time PPPK teachers will be given the opportunity to become full-time PPPK, which will be carried out in 2027,” Rini said, as quoted on Wednesday (19/8/2026).

Rini confirmed that there are currently 231,246 part-time PPPK teachers, out of a total of 955,245 PPPK teachers. She said this number will help fill the total national teacher requirement of 526,689 positions.

“At present there is a projection for meeting the national teacher requirement of 526,689 formations, which of course consists of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Sekolah Rakyat, and Sekolah Garuda,” Rini said.

For teachers who wish to change their status to civil servants (PNS), Rini said the opportunity will also be opened in 2027. However, the process will go through selection stages, not automatic appointment.

“PPPK teachers will be given the opportunity to take part in PNS selection, with registration expected to open in early 2027,” Rini said.

Rini said that in 2026 the government is also currently calculating the total national teacher requirement.

“We will open it for the projected national teacher requirement for 2026, including the needs of Sekolah Rakyat, Sekolah Terintegrasi and Sekolah Garuda,” she stressed.
