Parliament's Commission III Requests Comprehensive Evaluation of Karo District Prosecutor's Office Over Amsal Case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) has requested the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision or the Attorney General’s Supervision Agency (Jamwas) to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the entire staff of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office that handled the case of Amsal Christy Sitepu.
“And to submit a written report on the results of this evaluation to Commission III of DPR RI within one month,” said Habiburokhman, Chairman of Commission III of DPR RI, while reading out the conclusions of the meeting with the Karo District Prosecutor and Amsal Sitepu at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
In addition, he urged law enforcement authorities to thoroughly investigate the intimidation experienced by Amsal, which is suspected to have been carried out by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) in the name of Wira Arizona, Head of the Special Crimes Section Reinhard Harve Sembiring, and Head of the Intelligence Section Dona Martinus Sebayang.
Jamwas of the Attorney General’s Office is also requested to investigate allegations of violations by members of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office, namely the failure to implement the decision of the Medan District Court panel of judges regarding the suspension of detention and instead building propaganda that Commission III of DPR RI is intervening in the legal process of the case.
“Commission III of DPR RI requests the Indonesian Prosecutors’ Commission to conduct an examination of the Amsal Christy Sitepu case as material for a comprehensive evaluation of prosecutorial performance,” he said.
On the other hand, he also emphasised that the acquittal verdict in the Amsal Sitepu case cannot be subject to legal remedies, either appeal or cassation, in line with the spirit of the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) provisions.
Meanwhile, Amsal Sitepu expressed his gratitude to Commission III of DPR RI for fighting for justice on his behalf.
He said that the conclusions from Commission III’s meeting were very relieving because he had previously been worried if his acquittal verdict were to be appealed or cassated.
“I can’t stop thanking Commission III of DPR RI, especially from those five conclusions,” said Amsal.
