Parliament's Commission III Holds Special Session on Acid Attack Against Andrie Yunus, Results Released
Jakarta — Commission III of the House of Representatives held a special session regarding the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, an activist with the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), at the Commission III meeting room, Nusantara Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 16 March 2026. The session was chaired by Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman.
“We are deeply concerned and strongly condemn the acid attack because it is not merely ordinary crime but a crime against democracy,” stated a press release from Commission III that was received by CNBC Indonesia.
The following are the conclusions of the Commission III session, which have binding legal force and must be implemented in accordance with Article 20A of the 1945 Constitution and Article 98(6) of Law Number 17 of 2014 on the People’s Consultative Assembly, House of Representatives, Regional Representative Council, and Regional Legislatures (MD3 Law):
Commission III affirms that Andrie Yunus is entitled to protection under both national and international law that has been ratified by the Republic of Indonesia, as both a citizen and a human rights defender.
Commission III affirms that the acid attack on Andrie Yunus represents resistance to President Prabowo Subianto’s government’s commitment to maximise the protection, advancement, enforcement, and fulfilment of human rights as outlined in the Asta Cita.
Commission III requests that the National Police conduct a thorough investigation into the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus quickly, transparently, and professionally, and immediately identify and arrest all perpetrators — those who planned, ordered, carried out, or assisted in the attack — in accordance with applicable laws.
Commission III requests that the government, specifically the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, ensure full coverage of the best medical treatment and health recovery for Andrie Yunus.
Commission III requests that the National Police and the Witness and Victim Protection Agency coordinate and provide special protection to Andrie Yunus, his family, his organisation, and other related parties to ensure their safety and prevent further violence against them.
Commission III will continue to monitor the handling of the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus to ensure that justice and truth are upheld for Andrie Yunus through regular working sessions and public hearings with relevant law enforcement officials.
