The Secretary-General of the Gerindra Party, Sugiono, has claimed that an agreement has been reached among coalition parties regarding a 5 per cent parliamentary threshold for the 2029 General Election. This threshold is expected to be a crucial point in the discussions regarding the revision of the Election Law.

Sugiono stated that political party chairpersons have convened to discuss several matters necessary for the revision of the Election Law. In that meeting, the Gerindra Party was represented by the party’s Daily Chairman, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. Sugiono noted that one of the points agreed upon during these discussions was the 5 per cent parliamentary threshold.

He added that the Gerindra Party approves of this figure. “Gerindra also agrees on the 5 per cent threshold. As mentioned yesterday, Golkar also expressed agreement, as did PKS,” he said.

The increase in the parliamentary threshold to 5 per cent is viewed as a potential arena for competing political interests during the revision of the Election Law. Professor Aditya Perdana, a specialist in Political Institutionalisation from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Indonesia (UI), noted that the PSI party is among those that need to closely monitor these regulatory changes, as they could affect the chances of non-parliamentary parties entering the House of Representatives (DPR).
