Parliamentary Member: Acid Attack on KontraS Activist Must Be Fully Investigated
JAKARTA — Rudianto Lallo, a member of Commission III of the House of Representatives, has called on law enforcement authorities to fully investigate the acid attack against Andrie Yunus, an activist from the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).
Rudianto stated that authorities must uncover both the perpetrator and the motive behind the incident that occurred on the evening of 12 March 2026. “This incident must be thoroughly investigated to identify who the perpetrator is and what the motive behind this acid attack was,” Rudianto told journalists on 13 March 2026.
Rudianto emphasised that the investigation cannot stop at the inquiry stage alone. Instead, the perpetrator must be held legally accountable. “Violence and physical injury through acid attacks constitute criminal behaviour that must be prosecuted,” he concluded.
According to earlier reports, the KontraS activist Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid by an unknown assailant. Dimas Bagus Arya, coordinator of KontraS’s board, stated that the attack caused Andrie to suffer serious injuries across his body. The incident occurred shortly after Andrie Yunus had finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) entitled “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review in Indonesia”. The recording session concluded at approximately 23.00 Western Indonesia Time.
Following the acid attack, Andrie was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment. Medical examination revealed he had sustained burns covering 24 per cent of his body.
“Based on the information we have gathered, we believe this acid attack represents an attempt to silence critical voices in society, particularly human rights defenders,” Dimas said.
