Parliamentary Commissions VII and V urge expansion of berths at Merak Port
The Parliamentary Commissions VII and V of the Indonesian House of Representatives are urging ASDP Indonesia Ferry to add three pairs of berths at Merak Port and Bakauheni Port to maximise vessel operations serving passenger ferry crossings. During a meeting on Thursday 12 March, Commission VII member Bambang Haryo Soekartono stated that port improvements and the addition of ships would not provide an effective solution without being matched by adequate berth infrastructure. The lawmakers emphasised the importance of balanced development between vessel procurement and port facilities to ensure efficient operations on Indonesia’s key ferry routes.
