Parliamentary Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives has urged the acceleration of institutional restructuring at the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to enable it to carry out its duties optimally in organising hajj and umrah pilgrimages. The restructuring encompasses strengthened cross-ministerial coordination, organisational management, human resources development, and the transfer of assets related to hajj services.

This formed one of the conclusions from a working session between Parliamentary Commission VIII and Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, and Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Rini Widyantini at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Vice Chairman of Commission VIII, Ansory Siregar, stressed that the establishment and strengthening of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s institutional framework must be accompanied by intensive coordination between relevant ministries to ensure an effective transition process.

“Commission VIII calls upon the Minister of Hajj and Umrah and the Minister of Religion to enhance coordination with the PANRB Minister in completing the institutional restructuring of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, both at central and regional levels,” Siregar stated.

Additionally, Commission VIII also highlighted the importance of data synchronisation and meeting human resource requirements within the new ministry. According to Siregar, SDM readiness represents a critical factor to ensure that hajj and umrah pilgrimage services operate at maximum capacity.

Furthermore, Commission VIII requested that the government accelerate the process of transferring ownership status of various assets, archives, and documents related to hajj and umrah operations. This transfer process is considered essential to ensure all supporting infrastructure for hajj management is integrated under the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

On another matter, the House of Representatives also urged the PANRB Ministry, working with the Ministry of Religion, to prepare the organisational structure for the Directorate General of Islamic Boarding Schools (Pesantren). This measure is expected to strengthen the management of Islamic boarding school education in a more structured manner within the government bureaucratic system.
