Parliamentary Commission III to Summon Police and KontraS After Eid to Discuss Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
Commission III of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia will invite the National Police and KontraS to discuss the law enforcement process in the case of an acid attack against activist Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, following the Eid 2026 holiday.
“The nearest working meeting will likely be after Eid. We will invite Polri, we will invite related parties, including possibly the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) and KontraS,” said Commission III Chair Habiburokhman at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.
However, should an urgent situation arise, Habiburokhman stated that Commission III could also convene these parties for a meeting before Eid. He assured that Commission III is currently taking the case seriously.
“We give space and time to Polri, to Polri investigators to carry out their duties,” he said.
On another front, he also called on Polri to vigorously counter the spread of inaccurate information, particularly regarding photographs of the suspect that were processed using artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Habiburokhman, many members of the public have been misled by these AI-generated images, and he himself initially believed the photographs were genuine. He emphasised that police must be responsive in preventing such misinformation.
“Even I thought it was a real image until last night. When I checked and made calls, I was told, ‘Oh, that’s AI, sir,’ by my contacts at Polri,” he said.
Previously, Jakarta Metro Police committed to thoroughly investigating the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus.
Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations at Jakarta Metro Police, stated in Jakarta on Sunday that investigators are working extra hard in the field.
“The police’s primary focus is to uncover the identity and apprehend the perpetrator behind this criminal act that has damaged democracy through a scientific crime investigation approach,” he said.
