The Chairman of Parliamentary Commission III Habiburokhman has strongly condemned the acid attack against activist Andrie Yunus. He stated that he has contacted the leadership of Metro Jaya Police to investigate the case.

“We demand that the police move quickly to investigate this case and arrest the perpetrators,” he said in a written statement on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

He stated that the state should not tolerate any form of violence against its citizens, particularly when such attacks occur merely because of differences of opinion.

Habiburokhman cited Article 28G of the 1945 Constitution, which states that every person has the right to protection of their personal self and the right to feel safe.

“We will ensure that Commission III continues to oversee this case so that the investigation proceeds quickly and professionally,” said the politician from Gerindra Party.

Beyond pushing for the investigation, Habiburokhman requested that Andrie Yunus be given maximum security protection with the aim of providing safety from the threat of follow-up violence that the victim could potentially experience.

“We also demand that the state fully bear the cost of the best medical treatment so that Andrie Yunus can recover quickly,” he said.

Previously, Andrie Yunus was sprayed with acid whilst on Jalan Salemba I-Talang in Central Jakarta on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026. Andrie was sprayed with a dangerous solution by two unknown persons. The two individuals were riding a motorcycle that approached from the opposite direction to Andrie.

The Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the perpetrators sprayed acid onto the front of Andrie’s body. After that, Andrie collapsed onto the road. “The victim immediately screamed in pain until he dropped his motorcycle,” said Dimas on Friday, 13 March 2026.

Dimas recounted that before the incident, Andrie had just finished recording a podcast titled “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at the offices of the Legal Aid Foundation Institute (YLBHI) in Central Jakarta at approximately 23:00 WIB on Thursday evening.

After that, the victim stopped at a petrol station in the Cikini area in Central Jakarta. He then continued his journey by riding his motorcycle.

At approximately 23:37 WIB, two individuals believed to be male and riding an automatic motorcycle approached Andrie. The two individuals then sprayed acid towards Andrie. The corrosive chemical liquid struck the right side of Andrie’s body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands.

Part of the victim’s clothes also melted as a result of the acid exposure. Medical examination results showed that Andrie suffered serious burns covering 24 per cent of his body. The victim screamed in pain and called out about the acid, causing a number of residents to gather.

The perpetrators dropped a stainless steel glass whilst attempting to flee. The alleged perpetrators are believed to have fled in the direction of Jalan Salemba Raya in Central Jakarta. At the time this article was written, Andrie Yunus was still receiving intensive care at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital.
