Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Parliamentary Caucus for World Peace, consisting of members from the DPR and DPD RI, will campaign for world peace while voicing calls to halt conflict escalations at various embassies in Indonesia. This step is taken in response to geopolitical dynamics following the escalation of conflict between the United States-Israel and Iran. “One of the important agendas will be visiting the embassies of the involved countries, yes, America, then Iran, perhaps Gulf countries,” said Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI Legislative Body Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tanjung, as the caucus representative, during a press conference at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday. According to Doli, the caucus will also visit embassies of countries that have chosen not to get involved in the war. “For example, European countries,” he said. He explained that this caucus, comprising 30 members, represents the concern and moral and political movement of the Indonesian parliament to uphold the constitutional mandate of realising world peace. The formation of the caucus stems from the increasingly critical global situation due to ongoing wars in recent years. “Actually, this war started in 2022, yes, with Russia versus Ukraine, then in 2023 there was Israel’s invasion of Palestine, it didn’t stop, and then in the last two or three months, it’s been US-Israel versus Iran,” he said. “Of course, we cannot let this happen; we cannot remain silent, so we agreed to take the initiative to form the Parliamentary Caucus for World Peace,” he added. The number of caucus members is projected to increase as communication expands to other parliament members. Doli added that political party backgrounds are set aside in this caucus. “Of course, we hope this movement becomes increasingly widespread, not only for us as initiators and declarators, but also towards existing institutions,” he said. In addition, the caucus will communicate intensively with the leadership of the DPR, DPD, and MPR RI. “So that this becomes an official institutional movement and then provides support to the Indonesian government to take more serious, firmer steps to end the war and create world peace,” he explained.
