Parliament Urges Legal Process in Acid Attack Terror Case to Continue to Completion
Members of Commission I of the DPR from the PDIP faction, TB Hasanuddin, have urged that the legal process in the acid attack case against Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus, continue following the resignation of the Head of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), Lieutenant General Yudi Abrimantyo.
According to Hasanuddin, the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) must still investigate the case to completion, including those who ordered the acid splashing against Andrie Yunus.
“There must be a legal process and to what extent that legal process reaches the BAIS head,” said Hasanuddin when contacted on Thursday (26/3).
The PDIP politician explained that in the military, the chain of command is clear. This means every activity or action carried out by members is based on orders.
“Therefore, what was done by the officers and NCOs in carrying out the splashing, it must be investigated who gave the order,” stated Hasanuddin.
In the Intelligence Law, he said, Andrie’s case meets the criteria for the intelligence team to conduct an investigation. The investigation results will then be submitted to the government for action.
On the other hand, Hasanuddin hopes that the case will be processed openly.
“Yes, there must be awareness about that. And if the government covers it up, that also means our level of democracy is declining, it’s clear like that,” he said.
Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the DPR, Dave Laksono, praised the decision of the Head of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), Lieutenant General Yudi Abrimantyo, to resign from his position. According to Dave, this attitude shows awareness of the urgency of transparency and public trust in state institutions.
“We invite all parties to respect the ongoing legal process, while maintaining the stability and dignity of state institutions,” said Dave.
The TNI Information Centre Head, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, stated that the handover of the BAIS head position had taken place on Wednesday (25/3). Nevertheless, as of now, the TNI has not announced the figure who will replace Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo.
“As accountability, today the handover of the BAIS Head position has been carried out,” said Aulia in a press conference at TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/3).
