Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dave Laksono, has assessed that the government’s and TNI’s decision to continue deploying TNI personnel to Lebanon represents a tangible manifestation of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining world peace.

He believes that the presence of Indonesian peacekeeping troops as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) not only reflects international responsibility but also strengthens Indonesia’s diplomacy in preserving regional stability.

“Commission I of the DPR RI extends its highest appreciation to all the soldiers who will be deployed,” said Dave in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Nevertheless, he stressed that the safety and welfare of the soldiers in Lebanon must be the top priority. The Ministry of Defence and TNI, he said, must ensure optimal logistical support as well as coordination with other international partner personnel.

“Ongoing evaluations of the dynamics on the ground are necessary so that every policy remains relevant and the soldiers can carry out their duties safely,” he stated.

He emphasised that the peacekeeping mission must be upheld with the highest professionalism, upholding humanitarian values, and bringing honour to the nation. Commission I of the DPR urges all soldiers to always maintain discipline, solidarity, and fighting spirit with a professional attitude.

“So that Indonesia’s contribution becomes increasingly meaningful for world peace,” he said.

Previously, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that Indonesia will send 780 personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on 22 May 2026.

“The date is planned for 22 (May 2026). (a total of) 780 personnel (TNI soldiers departing for UNIFIL),” said Sugiono, who was met after a joint press statement between Indonesia and Singapore in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5).
