Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the House of Representatives Commission VIII Surahman Hidayat has reminded the government to ensure comprehensive protection for the victims of sexual violence at a pesantren in Pati, Central Java. According to Surahman, comprehensive protection encompasses physical, social, and psychological rehabilitation, so that the victims can recover and rebuild their futures. Surahman reminded the public and students to not be easily swayed by similar tactics. He emphasised that indoctrination in the name of religion, which contradicts religious teachings, must not be used as a justification for committing moral crimes. “The public and students must remain critical and not easily believe misleading spiritual claims. The sanctity of religion must not be used as a shield to cover up moral crimes,” he said. Surahman expressed his highest appreciation to the National Police, particularly the Pati Police Resort, for promptly receiving and following up on reports from several victims. To date, the alleged perpetrator has been designated as a suspect. “We appreciate the swift action of the Pati Police Resort in designating AS as a suspect. We urge that this case be resolved transparently and that the perpetrator receives the maximum punishment for the heinous acts committed,” Surahman stated. Previously, the Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, affirmed that the Ministry of Religious Affairs will not tolerate any form of violence and sexual harassment, whether physical, verbal, or sexual. “There is no tolerance for sexual violence. I have never tolerated even the slightest act that harms human dignity,” said Nasaruddin Umar. The Minister emphasised that educational institutions must be safe and dignified spaces for all learners. Religious educational institutions must be the safest places for children to learn and serve as ideal examples for society.
