Commission III of the DPR is scheduled to hold an audience to discuss the case of alleged sexual harassment against several students perpetrated by a ustaz who serves as a Quran memorisation competition judge on a television station with the initials Sheikh AM.

Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman stated that the audience meeting is planned for Thursday (2/4) next week.

“On Thursday, 2 April, Commission III of the DPR RI will hold a General Opinion Hearing (RDPU) regarding the alleged sexual harassment case that occurred around 2017-2025, perpetrated by a ustaz who is also a Quran memorisation competition judge on television, with the initials Sheikh AM,” said Habiburokhman in his statement on Thursday (26/3).

In the upcoming meeting, Habib said that they have invited representatives of the victims, their legal counsel, and the Director of Crimes Against Women and Children and Human Trafficking Eradication from the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency.

Habib clarified that the accused perpetrator is not Ustaz Soleh Mahmud (Ustadz Solmed) or Ustaz Syamsuddin Nur Makka (Ustadz Syam), as has been circulating.

“So it is not those two, but rather someone who is usually called Sheikh,” said Habib.

The Gerindra Party politician hopes that the meeting will accelerate the legal process against the perpetrator and bring justice to the victims.

Sheikh AM was previously reported to the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency for the alleged sexual harassment of students. Based on statements from the victims’ legal counsel, Benny Jehadu, the suspect often appears on television programmes as a Quran hafiz judge.

This indecent act case has more than one victim. The legal counsel stated that all his clients have suffered very deep psychological trauma as a result of the incident.

“The timeline is around 2017, so there are several victims at different times. Some in 2017, 2018, up to 2025. But the times vary,” said Benny.
