Parliament Implements Savings Measures: AC Turned Off at 8 PM, Official Trips Restricted
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The House of Representatives is preparing several cost-saving measures, including turning off electricity, AC, and lights in the DPR building, as well as restricting official travel for civil servants (ASN).
“Yes, we actually discussed it last week from various aspects related to savings and future work patterns,” said DPR Secretary General Indra Iskandar when contacted by Kompas.com on Thursday (26/3/2026).
“Then, regarding environmental management, we are preparing an exercise. Later, every day, if there is no plenary session, by 8 o’clock at the latest, we will turn off all the lights. By 8 o’clock at the latest,” he explained.
“Well, for meeting rooms that are not in use, we will also turn off the electricity, AC, and lights,” he added.
Meanwhile, regarding vehicle usage, Indra could not yet disclose quantitative reductions in fuel consumption. However, his side has prepared fuel-saving measures.
Previously, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa emphasised that the government would cut budgets for ministries and institutions. Currently, the government is calculating the amount of budget efficiency to be implemented.
One scenario being discussed is a cut of around 10 percent from the budgets of ministries/institutions.
“We are calculating it for all ministries. Initially, we proposed that they submit (efficiency) of 10 percent, but when I offered it to them, they didn’t cut; they kept adding. So I said I would cut, and then they would adjust. But the percentage is still under discussion,” he explained.
