Parliament Highlights Human Rights Violation: Muslim Female Employees Restricted from Wearing Hijab at Siloam TB Simatupang Hospital
Member of the House of Representatives Commission XIII, Yanuar Arif Wibowo, has highlighted allegations of human rights violations in employment practices at Siloam TB Simatupang Hospital in South Jakarta. He noted that the employee uniform policy does not explicitly accommodate the wearing of hijabs by Muslim female staff. Yanuar stated that this could lead to discrimination and contradicts human rights principles. “I see allegations of restrictions on the right to religious freedom, which should be guaranteed in employment practices. To date, there has been no clarity from the hospital regarding this policy,” Yanuar said in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Yanuar’s statement was made during a Hearing with Representatives of Commission XIII of the House of Representatives with several institutions, such as the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ministry of Law, Ministry of Health, National Human Rights Commission, National Commission on Violence Against Women, Witness and Victim Protection Agency, and Health BPJS. According to him, the implementation of human rights must apply comprehensively, not only in government environments but also in the private sector.
