Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that DPR RI will form a command centre to expedite the handling of issues related to agrarian reform.

Dasco, while receiving an audience from labour unions on International Labour Day or May Day 2026 at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, explained that the command centre will complement the special committee (pansus) that has already been established.

“Later, a kind of command centre will be created, combined with the leadership of Commission III,” he said in front of labour representatives.

He explained that the Special Committee for Resolving Agrarian Conflicts, formed since October 2025, is progressing slowly because it is still focused on synchronisation. To accelerate the process, the pansus will be directly overseen by Deputy Speaker of DPR RI Saan Mustopa.

“So, the Agrarian Pansus will be directly handled by Mr Saan as Deputy Speaker of DPR, and the command centre will include Commission III,” he clarified.

According to Dasco, the command centre will accommodate information from the public if problems arise in the field. This way, DPR can provide quick responses along with necessary mitigation steps.

“If we don’t receive information like last time when we were informed, we didn’t know that an incident had occurred in the field, such as arrests or problems between companies and farmers,” he said.

He also invited labour unions to actively engage in audiences. “Don’t get discouraged; we must sit down again, please conduct an inventory of urgent matters that need to be followed up immediately,” he stated.

On that occasion, Secretary General of the Consortium for Agrarian Reform Dewi Kartika said that since the DPR formed the Special Committee for Resolving Agrarian Conflicts, a series of field issues continue to occur.

Dewi Kartika explained that from December 2025 to April 2026, farmers, activists, and indigenous communities were still shot, assaulted, and arrested for defending their land.

“This means that since the formation of the pansus, we are still waiting for what changes will be driven to ensure there is no more criminalisation and violence against farmers and rural communities, including activists who have been steadfast in fighting for workers’ rights and the struggle for democracy,” she said.

Therefore, according to her, agrarian reform requires political push from DPR.

“If there is no political pressure from DPR RI, agrarian reform will not be implemented, and there will always be classic excuses why the land does not reach farmers and agricultural workers,” Dewi stated.
