Parliament Calls for Government to Accelerate Discussion of Hajj Finance Management Bill
Jakarta – Abidin Fikri, Deputy Chair of Commission VIII at the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) and Chair of the Special Committee for the Hajj Finance Management Bill, has announced that the DPR formally approved the draft bill amending Law No. 34 of 2014 on Hajj Finance Management during a plenary session, establishing it as a parliamentary initiative.
He explained that this approval resulted from an extensive harmonisation process at the DPR’s Legislative Body (Baleg), involving all parliamentary factions and demonstrating strong commitment to strengthening the governance of hajj funds.
“This bill revision aims to enhance transparency, fairness, and proportionality in distributing benefits to hajj pilgrims, in accordance with current developments in hajj pilgrimage administration,” Abidin Fikri stated on Friday, 13 March 2026.
Abidin elaborated that more accountable management of hajj funds will ensure the principle of fairness is upheld, thereby preventing the allegations and suspicions of injustice that hajj pilgrims have long complained about.
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician then emphasised that the plenary approval makes the Hajj Finance Management Bill a national legislative priority.
Commission VIII of the DPR urged the Government to promptly prepare an Agenda Items List (DIM) for the bill so that it can be discussed with the parliament.
“Commission VIII of the DPR is committed to driving the acceleration of discussions so that this bill is swiftly enacted into law, in order to support the implementation of hajj that is fairer and more just for all Indonesian Muslims,” he concluded.
