Parliament Asserts BPKH Not the Cause of Long Hajj Waiting Lists
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Chairman of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Marwan Dasopang, stated that the presence of the Hajj Financial Management Agency is not a factor in the occurrence of queues for Hajj departures. However, he assured that Hajj fund management is conducted transparently, professionally, and free from conflicts of interest.
“So BPKH is not a factor. BPKH is a necessity. So that Hajj funds are managed in a trustworthy manner,” Marwan said during the Working Meeting of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives with the Minister of Hajj and Umrah and the BPKH Implementing Agency at the House of Representatives Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (13/4/2026).
Marwan emphasised that the long queues are not caused by the presence of BPKH.
Those queues are a consequence of the limited quotas provided by the Saudi Arabian Government and the choice of the “Waiting List” system, which is considered the fairest for Hajj pilgrims.
He also commented on the discourse of ticket hunting for Hajj worship, which he believes does not bring justice and does not solve the problem.
“So, even if we eliminate this (waiting list), suddenly there would be ticket hunting, it still wouldn’t solve the issue. Because it doesn’t bring justice,” he said.
Compared to ticket hunting, the Hajj waiting list remains the most appropriate.
Because currently it is quota-based and has been decided, Indonesia has and receives a quota of 221,000.
“So because it has been decided as our quota, we must prepare pilgrims outside the quota. Because there must be reserves. That’s why the fairest step was taken back then, indeed the waiting list, not by lottery.”
