Parliament Appreciates Government's Policy to Maintain Fuel Prices

The government’s policy to maintain fuel (BBM) prices amid fluctuating global oil prices has been appreciated. This was stated by Beniyanto Tamoreka, a member of Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) RI from the Golkar Party faction. According to Beniyanto, the decision is based on the Indonesia Crude Price (ICP) which, until the end of March 2026, remains around US$68 per barrel, still below the 2026 state budget assumption of US$70 per barrel.

“With the ICP position still controlled, the policy not to raise fuel prices is the right and measured step,” said Beniyanto, quoted from a press release received on Thursday (2/4).

He explained that daily fluctuations in world oil prices do not immediately have a significant impact on the ICP, as the ICP is calculated based on averages and reflects Indonesia’s real oil conditions.

“Global oil price movements that go up and down every day do not automatically cause the ICP to surge drastically far above the state budget assumption. This is the basis that fiscal space is still maintained,” he clarified.

He emphasised that the policy is a real form of the government’s concern for the people, especially in maintaining purchasing power amid global uncertainties.

“The government shows that fuel price stability remains a priority, so that the people are not burdened by world energy price turmoil. The state budget is essentially designed for the greatest benefit of the people,” he asserted.

Furthermore, Beniyanto added that the government’s ongoing efforts to increase oil and gas lifting also have the potential to strengthen state revenues from the energy sector. With proper energy demand management, rises in global oil prices are assessed as still able to be offset through increased oil and gas revenues and consumption control.

In that context, he stated that the government is also promoting national energy efficiency policies, including reasonable savings in fuel use by the public, selective implementation of work from home (WFH) in government agencies and the private sector, as well as accelerating the B50 biodiesel mandate as a strategic step to reduce dependence on fossil fuel.
