Parliament and Government Agree to Accelerate Sumatran Disaster Recovery Before Eid
A meeting between the House of Representatives’ Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force and the Government’s Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra has produced a number of conclusions. Chief among them is the target of completing accelerated recovery efforts in several disaster-affected areas across Sumatra before Eid al-Fitr 2026.
The meeting was held at the Nusantara IV building of the House of Representatives in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18 February 2026) and was chaired by Deputy Speaker of the House Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.
Dasco said his side appreciated the government’s performance in post-disaster recovery efforts in Sumatra. He urged that the needs of affected communities be met, particularly ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026.
“The House’s Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force and the Government’s Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra, together with regional governments, will maximise the acceleration of recovery in several areas still requiring attention, with the aim of completion before Eid al-Fitr 2026,” said Dasco.
The following are the 13 conclusions of the meeting:
The House’s Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force appreciates the performance of the Government’s Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra in expediting post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction across the region.
In preparation for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026, the House’s Task Force urges the Government’s Task Force to ensure the needs of affected communities — whether in evacuation centres, temporary shelters, or permanent housing — are met.
The House’s Task Force and the Government’s Task Force, together with regional governments, will maximise the acceleration of recovery in several areas still requiring attention, targeting completion before Eid al-Fitr 2026.
The House’s Task Force urges that additional regional transfer funds be provided to three provinces and all affected regencies and municipalities to expedite post-disaster recovery in Sumatra.
The House’s Task Force approves the reallocation of emergency response funds from other budget lines to supplement the Ministry of Public Works’ budget in support of the recovery of infrastructure, health facilities, educational facilities, places of worship, Islamic boarding schools, and madrasas.
The House’s Task Force supports the accelerated disbursement of health sector funding from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) for the renovation of 8,747 homes of health workers affected by the Sumatran disasters, to be completed before Eid al-Fitr 2026.
The House’s Task Force supports the fulfilment of an additional disaster health sector budget of Rp 529.3 billion.
Based on data validated by the BNPB, the House’s Task Force supports the Government’s Task Force in immediately using the data as a basis for aid distribution. The House’s Task Force also urges the Government’s Task Force to continue validating outstanding damage assessment data.
The House’s Task Force urges the Government’s Task Force to target the completion of temporary shelter construction in disaster-affected areas before Eid al-Fitr 2026.
Regarding the standardisation of technical guidelines for permanent housing, the House’s Task Force urges the Government’s Task Force to conduct more comprehensive studies.
The House’s Task Force urges the government to expedite the issuance of a Minister of Finance Regulation on the relaxation of ministry and agency budget usage for post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
Regarding aid from the Acehnese diaspora in Malaysia to affected communities in Aceh, the House’s Task Force supports the government in approving the receipt of such aid through the BNPB for delivery to disaster sites.
The House’s Task Force agrees to accelerate the simultaneous clean-up of residential areas by involving local communities through a cash-for-work payment system.
