Parliament Accuses Pati Perverted Kiai of Gross Human Rights Violation
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Member of the House of Representatives Commission XIII, Mafirion, has condemned the sexual violence committed by Ashari bin Karsana, founder of the Ndholo Kusumo Islamic Boarding School in Pati, Central Java, against dozens of female students. Mafirion views this incident as a gross human rights violation due to the imbalanced power dynamics. “Such actions clearly violate the right to safety, human dignity, and freedom from sexual violence,” Mafirion stated in a press release on Wednesday (6/5/2026). Mafirion pointed out that most of the victims are suspected to be minors, making this a serious violation of the constitution and child protection laws. “We condemn this sexual crime. The state must be actively present. The roles of state institutions such as LPSK, Komnas HAM, Komnas Perempuan, and KPAI are crucial and cannot be delayed,” Mafirion said. Mafirion urged LPSK, Komnas HAM, Komnas Perempuan, and KPAI to take proactive steps to reach the victims without waiting for formal reports. He emphasised the importance of protecting identities and ensuring physical security to prevent intimidation or revictimisation during the legal process. “LPSK must facilitate restitution and compensation for victims, as well as ensure long-term social rehabilitation. Coordination with law enforcement authorities must continue so that the judicial process truly favours the victims,” Mafirion stated. Mafirion further encouraged Komnas HAM and other child protection institutions to conduct independent investigations. He reminded that Komnas Perempuan and KPAI are obliged to ensure the legal process is transparent and child-protection oriented. “While issuing policy recommendations to prevent similar cases from recurring in religious education environments,” Mafirion added.
