Parking Relocated to the Right Side of Suryakencana Road, Drivers Admit Feeling Awkward
Residents parking vehicles on the right side of Jalan Suryakencana in Bogor City admitted feeling awkward on the first day of the trial implementation of the parking position change, Tuesday (21/4/2026). For information, vehicle parking on Jalan Suryakencana has been shifted from the left side to the right side of the road starting Tuesday. This policy is part of the arrangement of the area in question. Kompas.com observations at the location showed motorbike and car drivers parking on the right side of the road following instructions from parking officers. Officers were seen directing drivers using hand signals to park on the right side of Jalan Suryakencana. One driver, Hasan (47), expressed feeling awkward because he was not yet accustomed to parking on the right side of Jalan Suryakencana. He estimated it would take a few days to adapt. “This is the first time today, I’m still clumsy; if it’s two days, three days, there might be a change so I’m not clumsy anymore,” Hasan said when met by Kompas.com in Suryakencana on Tuesday (21/4/2026). “It’s comfortable on the left, I’m used to it, but this is the first time so I’m still awkward, ‘oh, on the right’, so I just follow and park on the right,” he continued. Hasan admitted he often comes to Suryakencana to pick up customer orders for culinary items in the area. Another driver, Adit (26), also admitted he was not yet used to parking on the right side of Jalan Suryakencana because he always parked on the left side previously. He usually comes to the area to take his parents shopping for food ingredients. “There’s awkwardness, but just not used to it yet; later it should become habitual. Taking parents shopping at the shop for food ingredients,” Adit said in Suryakencana on Tuesday. “It’s a trial. So shifting the parking position from the leftmost lane to the rightmost lane, the right side, from the left side of the road to the right side,” explained Sujatmiko when contacted by Kompas.com on Friday (17/4/2026). He revealed that the one-way road segment allows for vehicle parking placement on either the left or right side. The Bogor City Transportation Agency will conduct an evaluation regarding the parking relocation trial while also moving signs from the left side to the right side of the road. Sujatmiko said the Suryakencana area is a Central Business District (CBD). Therefore, parking arrangements are necessary to facilitate pedestrians getting off public transport and using the sidewalks in the area. Previously, pedestrians getting off public transport on the left side often faced parked vehicles directly. In addition, the steering wheel position on the right side of vehicles is considered to make it easier for drivers when parking in the right lane. “The steering wheel position on the right, so the movement flow to the parking is easier and more precise,” he stated.
