Parking problem in Pasar Pagi
Parking procedures in the Pasar Pagi downtown area, and its surrounds, have always caused problems. Problems usually arise when certain personnel from the Parking Management Agency stop drivers who use fake tickets at the exit gate, in spite of the fact the tickets are bought from the parking attendants at the entry gate. Sometimes the attendants even sell used tickets.
Residents of that area, who used to be given free parking stickers, now have to buy them at Rp 75,000 to Rp 100,000 each, and are valid for six months.
For the sake of the people's interest, the controversial parking areas should be demolished as soon as possible. There are several considerations that justify the demolition of the parking lots.
* Pasar Pagi no longer functions as the main business center, because about 80 percent of business activities have moved to Mangga Dua. It is now a crowded residential area. So it is not fair if the Parking Management Agency collect parking fees from the community.
* Brawls between parking personnel and drivers take place almost every day.
* Those who have bought entry tickets are still forced to pay certain fees to the parking management personnel.
* There are some irregularities practiced in the parking area which cause inconvenience to the society.
Residents of the Pasar Pagi and Glodok areas would be very grateful if the West Jakarta Mayor realizes the demolition plan of the parking areas as soon as possible.
