Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Parking Management Unit of the South Jakarta Transportation Department has installed banners prohibiting illegal parking fees at Blok M Square, South Jakarta, after a viral video surfaced of a resident paying parking twice.

“We have urged parking managers to install socialisation banners prohibiting the payment of parking fees to illegal parking attendants,” said the Head of the South Jakarta Transportation Department, Bernad Oktavianus Pasaribu, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Bernad stated that in this enforcement action, they are collaborating with the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) and the Parking Management Unit of the South Jakarta Transportation Department to conduct monitoring and supervision, aiming to prevent the practice of illegal parking attendants.

Therefore, the South Jakarta Administrative City Parking Implementation Unit has installed eight banners prohibiting illegal parking fees scattered around the Blok M Square area.

“Best Parking has followed up on the instructions by installing socialisation banners prohibiting visitors from giving parking fees to illegal parking attendants,” he said.

His side has also disciplined 10 illegal parking attendants (jukir) in the Blok M Square parking area following the viral video. “There are 10 illegal parking attendants who have been recorded,” he said.

The 10 illegal parking attendants were straightened out and asked to make statements promising not to return to collecting illegal fees. They are initialled MU, S, R, MRB, SA, MI, JS, D, IN, and AF.

Meanwhile, the Head of the South Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Nanto Dwi Subekti, said this straightening is a follow-up to public complaints regarding the practice of double parking fees in the area.

“They collect parking money, even though parking is only charged once officially using a ticket,” said Nanto.

The 10 secured illegal parking attendants were given sanctions in the form of examination report minutes (BAP) by the Parking Management Unit (UP) of the Transportation Department.

“If they repeat it, they will be subject to heavier sanctions,” he said.

In addition to straightening out illegal parking attendants, continued Nanto, officers also disciplined seven street vendors (PKL) who were trading out of place.

Thus, visitors to Blok M Square are urged to only pay parking once at the exit and park vehicles officially as provided by the management.

Previously, a video went viral on Instagram social media of a resident protesting illegal parking fees, resulting in having to pay parking twice at Blok M Square.
