Parking Attendant in Tambora Arrested After Forcing Motorist to Pay Rp5,000

A parking attendant with the initials MS was arrested by police in the Pasar Mitra parking area on Jalan KH M Mansyur, Jembatan Lima Urban Village, Tambora District, West Jakarta, after he forced a motorist to pay a fee of Rp5,000. Tambora Police Chief AKP Wahyu Hidayat stated the perpetrator was apprehended following the incident on Saturday (8/8). “The man, MS, has been secured at the police station,” Wahyu said when confirmed in Jakarta on Monday. He explained the incident began when the victim, Rendy Budiharto, parked his motorcycle in the Pasar Mitra Jembatan Lima parking area to shop for cake-making supplies. “After finishing his shopping and about to leave the location, the victim was approached by a parking attendant who demanded a parking fee. The victim then gave Rp2,000,” Wahyu said. However, the parking attendant allegedly refused the money and instead demanded a parking fee of Rp5,000. “The victim then refused because, according to him, the usual motorcycle parking rate paid was Rp2,000,” Wahyu stated. The disagreement then escalated into an argument. During the incident, the victim claimed to have received threats of physical violence. “The victim also contacted the 110 police service and was subsequently directed to file a report at the Tambora Police Station,” Wahyu said. Following the report, the Tambora Police Criminal Investigation Unit, led by AKP Sudrajat Jumantara, conducted a search around the Pasar Mitra Jembatan Lima parking area and found the man suspected of being involved still at the location. Officers then secured the man, identified as MS, for examination and clarification regarding the reported incident. “We immediately followed up on the information and public report. After conducting a search around the location, officers found the individual still in the parking area and immediately secured him for questioning,” Sudrajat said. The Tambora Police Criminal Investigation Unit is currently conducting an examination and further investigation to fully uncover the alleged criminal act as stipulated in Article 482 of the Criminal Code. The Tambora Police reiterated their commitment to responding to every public report and piece of information, including those circulating on social media, as part of efforts to provide a sense of security and maintain public order in the West Jakarta area. “We urge the public not to hesitate to report if they experience or become aware of any suspected criminal acts. Every report will be followed up according to applicable procedures and legal provisions,” Sudrajat concluded.
