A parking attendant, Dedi, has died after receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Palu, having been shot by a member of the Professional and Security Division (Propam) of the Central Sulawesi Regional Police, Aipda AA. The incident began with an argument and a fight between the two men.

“Based on the results of the joint team’s field investigation, measured firm action was taken by Aipda AA against D, who is said to have carried out an attack using a sharp weapon or machete,” said Central Sulawesi Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Achmad Muhaimin, in his statement on Friday (28/8).

Based on the initial investigation, the case occurred on Thursday (27/8) evening, beginning when Aipda AA arrived in a white Toyota Avanza and stopped near a Gorontalo food stall to shop at a minimarket.

“At around 8.40 pm local time, after leaving the minimarket, Aipda AA was approached by a man said to be wearing a red shirt. The man then asked about parking, and physical contact occurred, leading to an argument and a fight,” he explained.

During the fight, Achmad said, the parking attendant attacked Aipda AA with a machete aimed at his face. AA tried to fend off the attack, suffering injuries to his right hand and losing the ring finger of his left hand.

“Aipda AA then drew an HS-type firearm and fired one warning shot, but based on the investigation results, D continued to pursue him with the machete, so Aipda AA fired several shots at D,” he said.

At the same time, Achmad said, a resident with the initials MA, who was at a shoe repair shop, was injured in the neck, believed to have been hit by a stray bullet after peeking through a window upon hearing gunshots. He was taken to hospital.

“After the incident, Aipda AA was helped by residents to go to Bhayangkara Hospital in Palu for medical treatment. Meanwhile, D and MA were taken to Dr Shindu Trisno Level III Hospital. Police then put up police tape at the scene and processed the crime scene,” he said.

However, the parking attendant was pronounced dead after being referred to Anutapura Regional General Hospital in Palu.

“We will investigate the facts on the ground, including the use of sharp weapons and firearms in the incident,” he said.
