Paris mayor proposes honorary citizenship for Palestinians
Istanbul (ANTARA) — Paris Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire plans to grant honorary Paris citizenship to Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as Palestinian journalists, Le Parisien reported on Thursday (21 May).
Gregoire is scheduled to submit the proposal to the Paris City Council in June, his office said, citing Le Nouvel Obs.
“Paris always upholds the freedom of nations and human dignity,” the mayor’s office said in a statement.
“Paris chooses civilians over violence, law over arbitrariness, and life over destruction,” the statement added.
The statement also emphasised the importance of honouring Palestinian journalists.
“Honouring them means upholding the fundamental right of the people to know the truth,” the city government said.
