Parigi, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Parigi Moutong Regency Government, Central Sulawesi, targets the construction of 170 Red and White Village and Sub-district Cooperative (KDKMP) outlets by 2026 as an effort by the government to strengthen the people’s economy. “As a national strategic programme, regions are obliged to support and implement it,” said the Head of the Cooperatives and UMKM Office of Parigi Moutong, Fit Dewana, in Parigi, Central Sulawesi, on Wednesday. She explained that currently 32 units are in the process of construction, and three of the outlets have reached 100 percent completion. The main objective of the programme is to strengthen the village economy, improve community welfare through collective economic institutions, and realise food self-sufficiency. “Parigi Moutong has leading sectors, namely agriculture, fisheries, and maritime, so these sectors are strengthened through KDKMP,” she stated. The physical construction of the outlets continues to be accelerated, although some villages still face technical obstacles related to the readiness of the cooperative outlet locations. “The regional government (pemda) has the responsibility to facilitate the location discussion process, so that the construction of the outlets can proceed according to the set targets,” she said. From the aspect of improving welfare, cooperative business activities generate additional income and create new job opportunities for villagers. Furthermore, the strengthening of UMKM and food is directed towards accelerating local production, as well as providing markets for agricultural products or small industries. Each village must have a clear business scheme and priorities, utilising local potential for development, with the hope that local UMKM can be facilitated by KDKMP to expand their market networks. “The programme’s objectives are very good; cooperative managers must build good business management with careful calculations, so that business activities provide financial benefits,” Fit added.
