Parigi Moutong Regency extends flood emergency response for 14 days

Following technical considerations, the local government has extended the emergency response status in two flood-affected areas within the North Parigi and Kasimbar districts.

The Parigi Moutong Regency government in Central Sulawesi has extended the flash flood emergency status in the regency for the next 14 days.

“Through technical considerations, the local government is extending the emergency response status in two flood-affected areas in the North Parigi and Kasimbar districts,” said the Acting Head of the Parigi Moutong Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Moh Rivai, in Parigi on Friday.

He stated that the emergency status in Kasimbar, which was due to end on Friday (11/9), has been extended from 12 to 25 September. Meanwhile, the emergency status for North Parigi, which ended on 8 September, has been extended from 9 to 22 September 2026.

The extension follows the need for further handling of several infrastructure components, specifically the installation and repair of clean water networks, the placement of geobags (sand-filled containers) along riverbanks, and river normalisation activities.

Regarding the geobags, he noted that the BPBD has installed them along a 500-metre stretch of the river in Laemanta Village, Kasimbar District, alongside the installation of clean water network pipes.

“Currently, in Laemanta Village, we are assisting in supplying clean water to residents using water tankers, as the clean water network in that village is not yet functional due to ongoing rehabilitation work on the intake at the upstream part of the river caused by the flood impact,” Rivai explained.

A similar situation is occurring in West Toboli Village, North Parigi District, where BPBD teams and local residents are currently repairing the clean water network.

“The main command post and public kitchens have been closed, as displaced residents have now returned to their respective homes,” he added.
