Parigi, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi, has begun exporting durian to the Chinese market, with an initial shipment of 27 tonnes valued at IDR 2.1 billion.

“This moment marks a historical milestone for the region’s agricultural commodities in penetrating the global market,” said the Head of the Parigi Moutong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Faradiba Zaenong, during the launch of the first export of frozen durian in Torue, Parigi Moutong, on Thursday.

She stated that the region’s flagship commodities are now able to compete in the international market, particularly in the agricultural and plantation sectors.

The initial export of frozen durian is being transported by sea, with the commodities stored in special refrigerated containers. The shipment departs from the Pantoloan Port directly to China.

Kadin affirmed that this success should be a collective effort, and in the future, they are ready to facilitate the development of agricultural businesses with a village-based development model.

“We encourage each village to have a pilot project of at least 10 hectares spread across the 12 regencies in Central Sulawesi,” said Faradiba.

She explained that Central Sulawesi has approximately 1,000 villages. If each village manages at least 5 hectares of Montong durian, there would be approximately 5,000 hectares of durian plantations with a potential average production of around 50,000 tonnes per year.
