Parents Welcome PP Tunas, Supervising Children Amid Digital Restrictions
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com – A number of parents in Bekasi have positively welcomed the enforcement of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas), which begins to be implemented on Saturday (28/3/2026). They assess that this policy can protect children from exposure to negative content in the digital space, while still emphasising the importance of supervision and content filtering by the government. One Bekasi resident, Erick Kustara (44), considers the restriction of social media access for children to be an appropriate step, but it must be accompanied by stricter content filtering. “I think this social media restriction is very useful. But please, Komdigi should also carry out filtering,” said Erick when met by Kompas.com at the Patriot Chandrabaga Stadium on Saturday. He highlighted several popular platforms like Roblox, X, and TikTok, which he believes have more negative impacts than benefits for children. “Children have high curiosity. So, applications that shouldn’t be downloaded are still tried out,” he said. Even with government restrictions, Erick believes parental supervision remains the main key. However, he acknowledges that time limitations often become an obstacle. To reduce dependence on gadgets, Erick suggests that children engage in positive activities such as sports, scouting, arts, to scientific activities. According to him, these activities can help shape character while diverting children’s attention from screens. He also reminded of the potential risks of technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), which can be misused if not supervised. Similar views were expressed by another parent, Ari Ridwan (37), who supports the restriction of social media for children under 16 years old. “It’s good that the government is implementing this, but as parents, even before this, we must check what children see every day,” said Ari.
