Parents urged to play active role in preventing children from joining street brawls
North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat has urged parents to take an active role in preventing their children from becoming involved in street brawls.
“We never stop calling on parents to look after their children properly so they do not get involved in brawls,” said Hidayat in Jakarta on Saturday.
To anticipate juvenile delinquency such as street brawls, pillow fights and other disturbances, the North Jakarta municipal government has coordinated with the City Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimko) regarding the issue, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
“Coordination has also been carried out down to the level of sector police, military district commands, sub-districts and urban villages so that all parties are mobilised to anticipate brawls,” he said.
According to Hidayat, this effort is aimed at ensuring all parties play a role in creating a better Jakarta with a safe and conducive environment.
“We tirelessly urge parents to look after their own children. If they have not come home, go and find them — and if it is already late at night, children should be at home, not wandering the streets,” he said.
He also expressed support for the authorities’ measures in maintaining public order and security, particularly in apprehending teenagers or children involved in brawls or other criminal acts.
“We believe all of this is being done to create security and order in the area,” he said.
