The implementation of Government Regulation (PP) No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas) has received support from several parents, including Muhammad Ryan (42), a resident of Semper Barat, Cilincing, North Jakarta.

Ryan views the restriction of social media access for children as an appropriate step to protect them from exposure to negative content.

“Alhamdulillah, this is excellent for tightening the distribution of applications to children. Indeed, restrictions on social media among children are necessary,” he said when met by Kompas.com in Kalibaru, Cilincing, on Saturday (28/3/2026).

According to him, children tend to become calmer when holding a phone, so parents sometimes give in and provide access.

“Parents also sometimes think of handing over the phone to keep the child calm, because once the child holds the phone, they behave well,” he explained.

Ryan also revealed that children often look for loopholes when supervision is lax, even to the point of knowing their parents’ phone passwords.

“As soon as we’re not paying attention, they take our phone and secretly they’ve already memorised our phone password,” he clarified.

He added that parents are also required to set an example by not using phones in front of their children.

“If parents hold a phone, the children want to hold one too,” he said.

He directs his children to study the Quran at madrasah, learn at home, and utilise public facilities such as RPTRA.

“Some engage in play activities at RPTRA to spend time, so they’re not focused on the phone,” he stated.

According to Ryan, parental involvement is key to making such activity diversions effective.

“Indeed, parents must fully play with their children at home so that the children forget about playing with the phone,” he said.
